FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work while taking medical cannabis?

Yes, but stay fit for work. If you feel drowsy, you shouldn’t do safety-critical tasks.

Can I drive?

You must never drive if you feel impaired. According to official UK government guidance on medical cannabis and road safety:

  • Medical cannabis patients can legally drive only if they are not impaired by their medication.
  • You must have a valid prescription and carry proof of it at all times when driving.
  • Follow your specialist doctor’s dosing instructions carefully to avoid impairment.
  • THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis, can be detected in roadside drug tests even if you feel fine - UK law is zero tolerance for THC presence.
  • The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) requires you to inform them if you are prescribed medical cannabis. Failure to notify the DVLA may result in licence suspension or revocation.
  • The DVLA will assess each case individually to determine your fitness to drive.

Always keep your medication in its original labelled packaging and carry your prescription documents when driving. If you have any doubt about your level of impairment, do not drive. Safety and compliance with the law must be your priority.

What do I need to prove I’m legal?

Always have your prescription paperwork and keep medication in its labelled packaging.

Can I travel abroad with my prescription?

Possibly! Some countries have a complete ban on cannabis, including medical use. Before you travel, always check the local laws of your destination and confirm any requirements by contacting the embassy of the country you’re visiting.

Make sure to carry a doctor’s letter explaining your prescription, keep your medication in its original labelled packaging, and bring all prescription documents with you.

Failing to do so could result in serious legal consequences, including confiscation of your medication, fines, or arrest.

How do I request a doctor’s letter for my trip overseas?

Please email our Patient Support Team at support@dispensed.co.uk to request a travel letter. Once we receive your request, one of our team members will contact you to collect your travel details. They’ll then forward this to your doctor, who will prepare and issue your letter.
